Many clients do not wish to embark on a total garden re-design, but have beds or specific areas of the garden that lend themselves to reinterpretation purely through a planting plan.

A good planting plan takes into account climate, outlook, soil type, and other environmental factors as well as the client’s brief, and then combines plants which are suited to the site and look fantastic when put together.

This house in North Somerset has a drive with a turning circle at its centre, which originally consisted of rough-mown grass. The colourful planting now transforms the space, giving a sense of arrival as one drives up to the front of the house. There is interest throughout the year, with a progression of different flower colours from early spring until early winter, and gentle movement from the grasses swaying in the breeze. During the colder winter months, the outline of the grass seed heads and the low clipped evergreen yew hedges provide an element of interest and structure.
